Michael Jeong studies English and Journalism at UC Berkeley. Born in Johannesburg, South Africa to Korean parents, he moved to the coastal city of Durban at age four. Living in post-apartheid South Africa in the multicultural melting pot that is Durban, he gained a unique perspective on social and societal issues before coming to Cal as an international student.

Michael has interest and experience in a wide range of activities. He played rugby and remains a fan of the Sharks, the local Durban team, and was an executive member of the student government. He is also a musician, with over ten years’ experience in piano and violin, and performed with the provincial KwaZulu Natal Youth Orchestra for five years. In addition, he played for the Wium Music Group with multiple concerts for entertainment and charity, as well as accompaniment for formal events.

He enjoys the fine arts and culture, with a love of musical theatre. He appreciates history and anthropology, and is an avid reader, writer, and gamer in his spare time.
